The Club’s adult group, I Colori Italiani, performs many of the dances from the late 19th and early 20th centuries: the mazurka, walzer, and polka from northern Italy, saltarello from central Italy, the tarantella from southern Italy and Sicily, and line and circle dances from Sardinia. The women of the group perform a traditional Moresca, and the men present a sword dance from the island of Ischia. The group also sings songs in the regional dialect.
Performances have been given throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma (San Antonio Folklife Festival, Czech Westfest, State Fair of Texas, McAlester Italian Festival, area malls and department stores, conventions, company events, church festivals, and benefit functions).
Our resources include various performing groups in Italy, the book, Italian Customs, Costumes, and Dances by Cav. Elba Farbegoli Gurzau, and conferences and resources of the Italian Folk Art Federation of America (IFAFA).
