I Soliti Ignoti (Big Deal on Madonna Street)

I Soliti Ignoti (Big Deal on Madonna Street - Criterion Collection (1960))

Starring: Vittorio Gassman, Renato Salvatori

Director: Mario Monicelli

Please join us on Sunday, February 24, 2008, for the showing of I Soliti Ignoti. The movie begins at 7:00 p.m., and it will be in Italian with English sub-titles. The Club opens at 5:30 pm for pizza and/or desserts; please check Club-mail for more details. There is no charge for viewing the movie; there is a cost for the pizza ($5.00 per person) and a separate price for any beverage.

This movie is a classic comedy burglar caper. A troop of inept thieves attempt to break into a safe of a pawn shop. Along the way, everything that could go wrong does as they manage to drill through the wrong wall, and create various acts of mayhem.

The movie features some classic names in Italian Cinema including Totto and Marcello Mastroianni. Woody Allen's "Small Time Crooks" was clearly inspired by this film, so if you liked that one, you'll probably enjoy Madonna Street.
